Satcon Technology Corp. (SATC) Chosen for One of the Largest Solar PV Power Plants in California

Yesterday, Satcon Technology, a leader in providing utility-scale power conversion solutions for the renewable energy market, announced it has been selected to provide 51 MW of its Equinox Prism Platform solution and 1.5 MW of its next-generation Equinox inverter systems for a solar power plant in Southern California. The Equinox Prism Platform solution is a fully integrated multi-megawatt medium voltage (MV) building block. The installation will be interconnected to the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE) grid as a qualified facility for a large generator interconnection agreement (LGIA) under California Independent System Operator Corporation jurisdiction. It will be one of the largest solar power plants in California.

A turnkey utility-grade multi-megawatt solution, the Equinox Prism Platform features factory-integrated step-up transformers, MV disconnect switches, and power conversion electronics. The factory-integrated solution leverages Satcon’s Equinox PV inverters with 98.5 percent peak efficiency and the widest thermal operating range in the industry, offering the highest performance levels and low installation costs, as well as enabling the lowest levelized cost of energy (LCOE) in the industry.

Equinox is built upon Satcon’s PowerGate Plus inverter family, which is the most widely deployed large-scale solution in the world with more than 2.5 gigawatts sold to date. Equinox boosts system-wide energy harvest and solar plant yield, facilitating the industry’s highest ROI. The system’s utility-ready features enable remote control of real and reactive power, low-voltage ride-through, and power factor control. It supports fast communications, allowing for easy integration into SCADA systems through standardized communication interfaces.

Satcon’s solutions all include EDGE Adaptive Control Architecture (ACA), facilitating instant voltage stabilization, frequency control, and dynamic grid support. In the event of dynamic ground faults, EDGE ACA secures the continuous operation of the PV plant, and it achieves the performance guidelines established by the German Association of Energy and Water Industries.

Satcon Technology is a leader in providing utility-scale power conversion solutions for the renewable energy market. The company enables the industry’s most advanced, reliable, and proven clean-energy alternatives. For almost three decades, Satcon has designed and delivered cutting-edge, efficient energy systems for solar photovoltaic, stationary fuel cells, and energy storage systems.
