Rentrak Corp. (RENT) Releases Studio Share Module within OnDemand Essentials Systems

Rentrak, the leader in multi-screen media measurement serving the advertising, television, and entertainment industries, recently announced the release of the company’s new Studio Share module to the OnDemand Essentials system. The Studio Share module will deliver a transparent view of all competitive video-on-demand (VOD) information and industry data to motion picture studios participating in the program. This transparency gives studios the ability to view the results of their competitors along with their own results, creating the first transparent VOD information marketplace for theatrical releases.

Rentrak’s industry measurement service is the first to utilize census-based information, increasing transparency on the entire platform. This timely and actionable VOD industry-based information, including title-level performance, total industry performance, and title-trend performance, amongst other categories, will be available to existing studio clients of OnDemand Essentials who opt-in and subscribe directly to this cutting-edge feature.

“Rentrak is excited to provide the first-ever census-based industry view of transactional VOD content including total industry transactions and revenue. This advancement will open the doors of transparency to help the studios better understand trends within the transactional VOD business,” said Cathy Hetzel, corporate president and president of Advanced Media and Information at Rentrak.

In addition to rolling out the new Studio Share module, Rentrak is currently developing a similar transparent view of iVOD (Internet Video-On-Demand) rentals and EST (Electronic Sell-Through) purchases via the web, as well as content rented or purchased electronically through multiple devices such as iPad, PC, PlayStation, Roku, Xbox, and others which Rentrak is currently collecting transaction data from this type of viewing. On a weekly basis, transaction information will be aggregated for movie and television content for studios and networks that have chosen to make their content available, including Amazon, iTunes, PlayStation, Vudu, YouTube, Xbox, and others.

Rentrak’s OnDemand Essentials processes daily, census-level on-demand data representing over 100 million TVs from 38 cable, telco, and satellite providers, and 100% of the top-25 TV operators offering video-on-demand.
