LiqTech International, Inc. (LIQT) Announces Launch of State-of-the-Art Ceramic Flat Sheet Membrane Product

LiqTech International, a clean technology company that develops cutting-edge gas and liquid purification technologies, today announced the launch of a new, state-of-the-art Silicon Carbide (SiC) Flat Sheet Membrane (FSM) disc for Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) and Moving Bed Bioreactors (MBBR) for wastewater treatment.

The FSM configuration utilizes the outside-in filtration principle, which enables a pressurized mode or a vacuum suction mode of operation, reducing the cost of installation. The FSM module produces clean water by applying moderate suction pressure while submerged in a tank of dirty water. This set-up reduces the strain on housings, pumps, and controls and is used primarily in modern MBR and MBBR wastewater treatment systems. LiqTech now covers a wider spectrum of the market after the release of this cutting-edge new product. The LiqTech tubular filter is designed for operation in low-solid content feeds, whereas the FSM excels in higher-solid content environments, and the rotating discs are suited for very high solid content feeds.

The high clean-water permeability of the SiC material, being around 20 times more permeable than conventional polymeric 0.1um UF membranes and 4 times more permeable than a-Al2O3 0.1um UF membranes (competing ceramic material), allows compact systems that save valuable footprint for our customers.

The FSM is directed towards the MBR and MBBR wastewater treatment market, one of the most substantial applications in membrane technology, growing to about $800 million in 2011. The market is expected to grow even larger at a rate of 20% per year to exceed $3 billion in 2018.

The new LiqTech technology offers a flexible high-performance solution with the outstanding material advantages of SiC, providing customers ultra-compact systems with the reliability and robustness of a ceramic membrane. LiqTech has entered into cooperation agreements with two system integrators with specific know-how and market access to develop market-driven products with what we believe to be the best value proposition. LiqTech currently expects to generate material revenue from the sales of the Flat Sheet Membranes in 2013.
