Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (GILT) Provides Additional SkyEdge II System to HISPASAT

Global satellite networking technology, solutions and services leader Gilat Satellite Networks announced today that HISPASAT, a Spanish satellite operator, is expanding its broadband satellite-based network with an additional SkyEdge II system from Gilat. HISPASAT was launched in 2011 in support of the Spanish government’s Avanza 100% broadband access program, and this new contract marks the network’s third segment expansion.

Comprised of companies with a presence in Spain as well as Latin America, the HISPASAT Group is the leading satellite communications operator in the broadcast and distribution of content in Spanish and Portuguese. HISPASAT is the primary communications bridge between Europe and Latin America and one of the world’s largest companies in the sector by revenue.

The SkyEdge II system will serve thousands of new broadband users living in underserviced areas of Spain who are anticipated to join the network by the end of 2013. The flexibility of the SkyEdge II system will facilitate a reliable and more affordable broadband access alternative for customers living in some of Spain’s underserviced areas.

As part of the Spanish network, Gilat’s SkyEdge II system supports 32APSK Adaptive Coding and Modulation transmission, maximizing space segment efficiency. Combining SkyEdge II with the HISPASAT 1E satellite’s beam capabilities, the network is able to offer speeds of up to 100 Mbps per 36 MHz transponder. This feature is important for providing high-quality services with prices that rival terrestrial network offerings for the residential sector.
