Capstone Turbine Corp. (CPST) Announces Receipt of Orders Totaling 5MW from Distributor in Mexico

Capstone Turbine, the world’s leading clean-technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced that it received orders from one of its Mexican distributors totaling five megawatts.

The orders were received by DTC Soluciones Inmobiliarias SA de CV from industrial customers in Mexico. Each system that was purchased will showcase the efficiency of the Capstone microturbine technology which utilizes the waste exhaust in a combined heat and power (CHP) plant.

A global leader in plastic and aluminum closure systems purchased the largest order, a 2.6MW project for a combined cooling heating and power (CCHP) plant, and is to be installed at its manufacturing facility located in northern Mexico. The project makes use of the exhaust from the microturbines to produce both hot and chilled water for the CCHP system. With dozens of plants worldwide, this multinational customer could be a candidate for additional microturbine installations.

An additional 1MW project will be installed at a Mexican pharmaceutical manufacturer located in Guadalajara. This microturbine is considered “dual mode” and will provide the plant with power security even when local power grid goes down.

An existing Capstone customer that specializes in manufacturing packaging material will add a 200kW microturbine to its existing 600kW microturbine CHP plant located in central Mexico. Commissioned in October of 2012, the original plant houses the Capstone C1000 Series solution which possesses a unique design that makes such expansion very simple for the customer.

The final project will see three 65kW microturbines installed at a ceramic tile and flooring manufacturer’s facility. The turbines will run on propane while utilizing the exhaust directly into the facility’s drying ovens.

DTC has stated that it expects to commission all of these projects over the next six months, thereby adding significantly to its installed fleet of microturbines under service as well as the Mexican base overall.
