Intended for use as a key component in a larger combined heat and power setup, the C1000 will provide N&N Agriculture Pte Ltd’s Singapore advanced high-tech egg production facility with optimal cleantech power. Run on biogas from animal waste in an anaerobic digester, this set up will provide an extremely robust onsite solution that should prove extremely reliable, even taking advantage of thermal power to dry spent grain for chicken feed.
The Capstone C1000 system will provide electrical power to the massive climate-controlled layer/grower houses (some 32 acres of infrastructure) at N&N’s sprawling Lim Chu Kang Agro-technology Park, and the deal was secured by CPST’s Asia-Pacific distributor, Sobono Energy, who expects to supply the commission this summer.
Founder and Managing Director of CPST, Wee Khoon Oh, was quick to point out the electricity tariff rate in Singapore as a major factor, which, at roughly $0.24/kWh makes energy costs an increasingly major part of the overall layout for operators like N&N. The intensive energy requirements of a farming operation like the one at Lim Chu Kang will benefit immensely from stable, onsite power via the C1000.
Surveys of analysts by Singapore’s central bank, as part of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s December survey of Professional Forecasters, puts growth for the Singapore Economy at 2.5-3% (good numbers taken in a global context, despite a downward revision from projections of 5% in September) in 2012, and this deal signifies yet another notch on CPST’s belt regionally, further cementing the company as the top cleantech microturbine provider.
Director of N&N Agriculture, Chin Chew Ma, threw a spotlight on CPST’s cleantech microturbine technology as an ideal solution for ongoing initiatives to improve product range and competitiveness, which has included additional constructions, like a feed mill and egg pasteurizing plant. The C1000 will help pick up the load requirements thusly introduced, working parallel to, and hand-in-hand with the grid in support of operations, while helping to shore up energy costs.
Exec VP of Sales and Marketing for CPST, Jim Crouse, detailed the reasons why farming operations worldwide, in their collective modernization efforts, are turning more and more to the company’s powerful, efficient, and reliable energy solutions, which have logged millions of documented runtime operating hours for customers around the world. Crouse made sure to convey how important the waste-to-energy technology employed, in conjunction with the fact that the systems are engineered to exceed other options, was for farmers especially, where animal waste processing, energy costs, and emissions all play key roles in the overall operational profile.
