Rod Smith, GPDB’s CEO, remarked, “This 40-acre land acquisition is another milestone that we’ve worked hard to achieve in order to launch the growing and sales of Living Produce™. Green PolkaDot Box is extremely proud of its partnership with Fresh Organics LLC.”
The site, located in Utah, will be one of the first large-scale, organic farms to use aeroponic technology in America. The land acquisition enables GPDB to develop, grow, and sell a wide variety of organic produce to its subscribers through its unique home delivery platform.
Green PolkaDot Box believes that Living Produce™ will bring superior food products to GreenPolkaDotBox.com members, in addition to benefits such as the produces’ superior nutrient content, year-round availability, enhanced quality and safety, and lesser environmental impact.
Smith commented further, “In many cases, the varieties of produce we offer will be alive when harvested locally and delivered, same or next day to commercial customers and GPDB members. These plants can remain alive for up to 7-10 days before they begin to deteriorate in nutritional value.”
The organic produce supply contract is expected to generate over $616,000,000 in revenues over its 10-year life. The first phase of the contract, slated to begin in January 2014, calls for the development of organically grown bell peppers, red and green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and assorted tomato varieties. Future phases will include a larger selection of the Living Produce™ line as GPDB’s growing and processing capacities increase.
