As you may have noticed, we’ve been publishing a couple of blogs a week related to breast cancer in honor of breast cancer awareness month. We’ve covered common misconceptions, ways to lower your risk, tips for getting involved in your community, and more. But our knowledge on the subject only goes so far. We aren’t doctors or scientists. That’s why, today, this blog is giving a nod to other blog writers out there who are truly subject matter experts: the brave people who have chosen to share their own stories and experiences with breast cancer.
The blogs we’ve compiled stand out for their helpfulness and informative nature, as well as the unique perspective they offer on a relatively widespread topic. These blogs are especially helpful when you’re looking for a more personal treatment of the topic. While many times, the constant hitting-the-public-over-the-head-with-breast-cancer-awareness reduces it in the average person’s mind to a handful of statistics or an opportunity to just wear pink, these personal accounts remind us of the human side of the story. Hearing the perspective of someone who has been through a diagnosis, treatment, and recovery is powerful, inspiring, and reminds us all how lucky we are to have our health.
The other great thing about the blogs we’ve highlighted here is that they’re all different, and that is a testament to the fact that no two experiences are the same. However, despite the differences, the voices out there come together and form a community of strong people who are battling and conquering this disease together.
