The global light emitting
diode (LED) lighting market was estimated to be worth about US$25.4 billion in
2013, representing 54 percent growth compared to $16.5 billion in 2012,
according to a DIGITIMES Research. The LED industry is projected to grow 45 percent
per year through 2019, reaching $42 billion, as consumers transition from
incandescent and fluorescent fixtures to LED technology, which is superior in

older type of bulbs. LED bulbs and lighting fixtures can be remotely controlled
via PC or smartphone, have the capability to dim vs. simply being turned off or

For example, the “blue
light” of LED technology stimulates photoreceptor in the eye that reduces the
production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep, and helps a
person stay awake and alert. LEDs are also being used to increase fruit growth
and reduce vegetable maturation time. These are just small mentions of the high
