SEFE is a development-stage company focused on developing and marketing a renewable source of energy from an abundant, but largely overlooked source: thin air. SEFE’s strategy for doing so is to capture naturally occurring static energy and convert it into a usable, commercial form. In regards to market entry and success, the company faces two hurdles: 1. Taking a seemingly impossible idea and developing it into a revolutionary and profitable solution; 2. Toeing up against an entire league of alternative energy companies vying for recognition in the clean energy space.
SEFE has a game plan for both.
The company’s ability to secure its intellectual property is its heavy weapon. Since SEFE initiated its research in 2008, the company has since secured four patents and has 18 pending/provisional patents, reflecting its continued R&D and progress of advancing its idea into a proprietary technology that can draw static electricity in direct current form from the atmosphere and convert it to alternating current for immediate power consumption. The company plans to fortify its patent portfolio through additional R&D and expansion of patent applications.
SEFE is also launching strategic initiatives to build energy density models and mapping systems to identify prime locations for its products. Though voltage in the atmosphere is a relative constant, with some variability between winter and summer, the amperes can significantly vary. This is a pertinent fact since watts of power are directly measured as “volt times amps.” By mapping energy gradients, the company can determine at what elevation is the optimal ion density for this energy. The application of knowledge gained by mapping and compiling data on atmospheric density of ions in the atmosphere gives SEFE a considerable foothold for ongoing R&D. The company can manipulate these core competencies to position itself in the best spots to achieve high-energy yields.
By demonstrating its progressive ability through the building of a strong patent portfolio, the company has already created a significant hedge against competition in the clean/alternative energy space.
SEFE’s second weapon comes from the source itself: static electricity.
Atmospheric electricity provides three additional key advantages over competing alternative technologies:
• low-cost energy solution;
• high availability; and
• scalable energy solution.
Cost: The cost of deploying and maintaining SEFE’s patented technology is projected to be relatively low, especially in comparison to solar module/wind turbine manufacture, installation and maintenance.
Availability: Alternative technologies such as solar and wind energy are saddled with availability issues. Solar only produces energy when the sun is shining; wind is contingent on weather and obviously the presence of wind. Atmospheric electricity extraction differs in that it is available and extractable night and day, providing a higher degree of availability. Data compiled by the Kennedy Space Center from 1997-to-2005 indicate that there is approximately 162.5 volts per meter in height, a statistic relatively uniform across the earth’s surface. In other words, static electricity doesn’t wane.
Scalablility: SEFE’s alternative electrical energy harvesting and distribution plan utilizes a patent pending “black box” power converter that translates the direct current captured in the atmosphere to an alternating current, according to the needs of the individual receptacle. The current can then be utilized in generators and existing power grids without altering the current power structure.
SEFE’s most significant playing point is its ability to produce. In four years the company was able to create tangible technology and to obtain patents to back it up. In addition, it has laid the groundwork for continuing its R&D and submitting numerous patent applications. By doing so, the company equipped itself with a first mover advantage that positions it for a strong market entry and competitive edge.
