CEO Stephen L. Day has been the president, CEO, treasurer, and a board of directors member of Dover Saddlery since 1998. He was previously the controlling member of leading Internet equine content site EquiSearch.com LLC. Prior to his acquisition of that company, he was chief executive officer of State Line Tack from 1991 until the company was acquired by Petsmart. Day has an MBA from Harvard University and a BS in Industrial Management from Purdue University. He is an avid equestrian and has founded two riding schools, and he has also trained many young horses to become successful show horses.
Jonathan A.R. Grylls has been Dover Saddlery’s chief strategy officer and a member of the company’s board of directors since 1998. He is currently serving as vice president and secretary. Prior to joining the company, Grylls was chief operating officer of equestrian products distributor Equestrian Products Corporation, and he also held various other positions in MIS, sales, credit, and operations at Eisers, the predecessor of Equestrian Products Corp. Grylls previously served as vice president of merchandising at State Line Tack from 1992 to 1996. He graduated from the University of Manchester’s Institute of Science and Technology with a BS with joint honors in mathematics and management sciences.
William Schmidt has been with Dover Saddlery since 2001 and has been the company’s chief operating officer since 2010. Before joining Dover, he held senior positions with catalog companies Duncraft, Bay Country Wood Crafts, and Garden Way, and he established the direct division of Eastern Mountain Sports. Schmidt worked at State Line Tack from 1991 to 1997, holding various positions including CFO, COO, vice president, and general manager. Schmidt has served as president of the New England Mail Order Association and has served on the board of advisors for the National Catalog Conference and the National Catalog Operations Forum. He has a BS in accounting from Bentley College.
David R. Pearce currently serves as the chief financial officer for Dover Saddlery. He has previously served as a member of the company’s board of directors and as chairman of the audit committee. He served as a trustee and chairman of the audit committee from 2003 to 2009 for Kensington Funds, a mutual fund complex investing in real estate securities. In 2008, he was appointed chairman of Kensington Funds’ board of trustees. Pearce is the former president, CEO, and CFO of Geerlings & Wade, Inc., the leading direct marketer of fine wine and wine accessories in America. He also served as an investment banker with the Bank of Ireland and State Street Bank. He additionally served as COO and CFO of Weston Nurseries, Inc. from 2004 to 2007 and for Superior Cake Products in 2009. He served as CFO of Tweeter Opco LLC during 2008 and for State Line Tack, Inc. prior to that company being acquired by Petsmart, Inc., where he also served on the board of directors. Pearce has consulted for Boston law firm Riemer & Braunstein since October 2009. He holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and has a BA from Brown University.
