Dot Hill Systems Corp. (HILL) New 4TB Disk Options Offer Reduction in Cost-per-Gigabyte of Storage

Dot Hill Systems, a prominent SAN storage solutions provider, announced yesterday its cutting-edge Assured SAN™ and AssuredSAN Pro storage solutions are among the first in the industry to feature 4 terabyte (4TB) SAS hard disk drives. Dot Hill storage arrays now deliver the most cost-effective data storage options in company history, with the largest arrays supporting raw storage capacities of up to 384TB.

Dot Hill has standardized the SAS interface for all hard disk drives and solid-state drives in an effort to further their initiative to deliver superior storage performance, while maintaining a low price point. SAS is a much better high performance controller option compared to SATA. Specifically, SAS 7K drives outperform their SATA counterparts in multiple key areas, including: command queuing, dual port paths, full duplex data transmission, and robust error detection and correction.

On top of extensive savings in cost-per-gigabyte, AssuredSAN arrays also boast impressive energy efficiency. This efficiency is the product of Dot Hill including several eco-friendly enhancements in the AssuredSAN solutions such as drive spin-down capability and 595-watt 80 PLUS-rated (greater than 80 percent energy efficiency) power supplies for reduced operating costs.
