Power-One, Inc. (PWER) Announces Release of High Efficiency Power Supplies with Integrated Battery Back-Up Circuit

Power-One, a prominent supplier of renewable energy and energy-efficient power conversion and power management solutions, announced the release of their 450W and 700W High Efficiency Power Supply/Battery Back-up units to be used with cutting edge, high efficiency servers and data centers. Open Compute Project specifications were used in the design of the Power-One power supplies, SPAFCBK-02G (450W) and SPAFCBK-03G (700W).

The power supplies merge a 450W or 700W Platinum Efficiency rated AC-DC power supply with a 48Vdc battery back-up circuit, giving the two products an all-in-one compact design. Both versions boast an efficiency of over 94% and have achieved 80-Plus Platinum level efficiency certification. Each unit utilizes a 277Vac input voltage source which allows the server to be powered directly from one phase of the high voltage 3-phase input power distribution network. By implementing the Open Compute Project specifications throughout the design process of the power supply for 277Vac, the need for an expensive site transformer was eliminated.

The impressive efficiency of the power supplies means that much less energy is wasted within the server and less energy is used in the overall cooling infrastructure. The integrated 48V battery back-up circuit allows for a localized, scalable power back-up infrastructure and eliminates the need for inefficient UPS systems.
