Universal Power Group, Inc. (UPG) to Open Distribution Center in Dallas

Universal Power Group is a Texas-based leading supplier and distributor of proprietary brands of industrial and consumer batteries of all chemistries. The company also distributes power accessories, solar, security, and cable products, as well as provides supply chain logistics and other value-added services.

The company announced today the signing of a lease for a distribution center and corporate office in Coppell, Texas. With the signing of the lease, Universal Power Group will relocate its corporate headquarters from its current location in Carrollton, Texas, when that lease expires in March 2013. It will be the sole tenant of the 208,000 square foot building located near the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Airport. The location provides easy access to both major highways and the air freight hub at DFW.

The new facility has a slightly smaller footprint than the current location. However, it allows for increased overall capacity through improved layout, greater racking capabilities, and office spaces to accommodate current sales and operating personnel with additional room for expansion. Management believes that the overall cost of the new facility will be comparable to the current facility, but with greater capacity and operating efficiencies.

Universal Power management believes being located in a major industrial business center will allow the company to grow faster. The company president and CEO, Ian Edmonds, said, “As we continue to execute growth initiatives, the new location provides for greater warehouse, distribution and operating efficiencies, greater energy efficiencies and improved operating costs.”
