Pointer Telocation Ltd. (PNTR): New Collaboration Will Offer Advanced and Profitable Telematics Applications for Public Transit Systems

Cellocator, a Pointer Telocation Ltd. division and a global leader in fleet management and tracking solutions, and iris-GmbH, a leading provider of sensors for automatic people counting, recently announced plans for collaboration that will offer an integrated fleet management and automatic passenger counting solution for use in the public transit market.

This collaboration allows for full integration of the iris IRMA Basic system with Cellocator’s Cello-F device, resulting in accurate passenger counting for effective utilization of vehicles in public transit systems, as well as enabling advanced fleet management and fleet safety applications.

Cellocator’s Cello-F platform provides superior functionality and performance for fleet management and AVL services, in addition to a plethora of advanced telematics applications, ranging from areas of journey and driver management to location and communication management for fleet owners and managers, insurance and service companies, and even car manufacturers and more.

Several of the anticipated applications include route planning, vehicle access control, and event prioritization for distress situations. Cello-F, one of Cellocator’s feature-rich and highly customizable products, is designed to meet the unique business and operational requirements for each specific client and OEM partner. Cellocator’s products are currently used in over 900,000 vehicles in more than 55 countries around the world.

Noam Cimand, VP Sales & Marketing at Cellocator, stated, “The telematics industry requires smart solutions to increase profitability, yet maintain safety and smooth operations. In order to provide the best solutions and quick time to market for our customers, we partner with leading providers such as iris-GmbH.”

Iris’ IRMA (InfraRed Motion Analyzer) product line consists of various sensor solutions for use in automatic passenger counting. Within this line of products, the IRMA BASIC system competes as a low-cost entry into passenger counting operations by delivering a continuous reliable stream of high-quality counting data. The applications for such data pertain to distribution of revenues or fundings, or the measuring and control of transit system performance by passenger numbers.

Discreet and unobtrusive, the sensors function by continuously monitoring door space via permanent scanning utilizing IR light pulses and evaluating their reflection by any person present to count the passengers.
