PLX Technology, Inc. (PLXT) to Chair SSD Track, Demonstrate Product at Flash Memory Summit
Yesterday, PLX Technology announced that the company would be devoting some of its time at the Flash Memory Summit at the Santa Clara Convention Center over the next couple days. PLX will be chairing a session on designing solid state drive (SSD) storage systems, as well as demonstrating its SSD-proficient PCIe Gen3 switches.
Based in Sunnyvale, CA, PLX is focused on providing semiconductor-based connectivity products to enterprise and consumer markets. PLX also develops software-enriched silicon. The company’s PCIe Gen3 product line consists of 14 devices that can achieve a throughput of up to 1,536 gigabits (or 192 gigabytes) per second.
PLX’s session, titled “Designing Storage Systems in the SSD Era” (Track 202-B), will consist of providing advice to hard disk drive makers on how to make the best use of SSD technology. The product demonstration will consist of PLX and collaborator Marvell Semiconductor, Inc., showing Marvell’s 88NV9145 PCIe-to-NAND controllers, which are enabled by PLX ExpressLane(TM) PCIe Gen3 switches.
Shawn Kung, director of product marketing, enterprise storage at Marvell, said, “With key support enabled by PLX, the Marvell demonstration features eight virtual machines running on a standard two-socket server ultimately sharing our native PCI Express SSD reference card. Each virtual machine is capable of achieving I/O performance up to an astounding 90K IOPS.”
