Ideal Power has developed a
patented power conversion technology called Power Packet Switching
Architecture™ (PPSA). PPSA improves the size, cost, efficiency, flexibility,
and reliability of electronic power converters. PPSA is scalable across several
large and growing markets such as solar photovoltaic generation, commercial
grid storage, and electrified vehicle charging. In addition, the company has a
licensing-based, capital-efficient business model that can enable it to address
these markets simultaneously. Among numerous grants for its PPSA technology is
a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects
Agency – Energy program. Further, customers are incorporating PPSA as a key
component of their systems.
Among the company’s many
solutions is their 30kW PV Inverter. The IPV-30kW-480 targets medium-size
commercial installations and solar parking structures, typically ranging in
size from 25kW to 250kW. The inverter supports standard grounded PV arrays
(unipolar and bipolar configurations) without requiring internal or external
transformers. Its lightweight design allows simple wall-mount installation
indoors or outdoors.
Ideal Power’s new PV
Combiner, the IPV-30-Combiner, replaces two combiners and two conduits with a
single box solution. This results in lower material and labor costs.
Additionally, the combiner has integrated load-rated DC contactors, enabling
both rooftop and remote disconnect. The combiner delivers improved firefighter
safety protection by automatically disconnecting both high voltage and neutral
current carrying conductors at the combiner during grid faults via a remote
disconnect switch, or via a command from building fire safety systems. The
product was designed to satisfy anticipated fire safety requirements of NEC
2014 – 690.12: Rapid Shutdown of PV Systems on Buildings.
