Zogenix announced today that
its Executive Director of Medical Affairs, Marsha R. Stanton, Ph.D., RN, has
been presented with the American Academy of Pain Medicine’s (AAPM)
Distinguished Service Award. The award honors an individual for his or her
outstanding commitment and contributions to the field of pain medicine and the
AAPM. Dr. Stanton will be presented the Distinguished Service Award on March 8
at the AAPM Member’s Business Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz.
“We congratulate Dr. Stanton
on receiving this prestigious award and are proud to have her as part of our
Medical Affairs team,” said Bradley S. Galer, M.D., Executive Vice President
and Chief Medical Officer of Zogenix. “She offers a wealth of experience and
insight into pain medicine and we look forward to her leadership and guidance
as we continue to deliver on our mission of developing and commercializing
therapies that address specific clinical needs for people living with
pain-related conditions.”
Dr. Stanton is known for her
extensive work in pain management, including clinical practice, public policy,
and patient education. She has been an integral member of the AAPM Foundation,
which advocates for patient safety by funding education and research, as well
as encouraging improved training and credentialing. As the Foundation’s
Treasurer, Board Member and Campaign Committee member, she has provided
valuable leadership and contributions to the Academy’s fundraising efforts.
“I’ve known Marsha for years
through working with her on the corporate council of the American Academy of
Pain Medicine, in addition to her work with the Academy’s Foundation,” said
Martin Grabois, M.D., Professor, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehab at
Baylor College of Medicine and AAPM Awards Committee Chair and Immediate Past
President. “She has always been a shining light in helping the Academy pursue
its goal to optimize the health of patients in pain and eliminate the major
health problem of pain by advancing the practice and the specialty of pain
medicine.”
Dr. Stanton is a registered
nurse and holds a Ph.D. in health education. Her career has included leadership
positions at Pfizer, King Pharmaceuticals, Alpharma Pharmaceuticals, Purdue
Pharma and Horizon Pharma. She obtained her Master of Science in Health &
Human Services from Columbia Pacific University and a Ph.D. in Health Education
from Glendale University.
