Petrosonic Energy, an emerging company engaged in heavy oil upgrading and related technologies, has completed the emulsification processing plant in Albania and announced the start of the heavy crude emulsion process, which the company notes as a key breakthrough.
“We are very pleased to achieve this major milestone for Petrosonic shareholders,” Art Agolli, CEO of Petrosonic stated in the press release. “The start of the heavy crude emulsion process demonstrates our ability to generate revenue from our technologies and to complete our projects on time. In addition, most of the infrastructure used for the emulsion process is the same that will be used for our de-asphalting Sonoprocess™ and their completion and operation is also an important step forward.”
PSON also reported the completion of several major components of the de-asphalting Sonoprocess™ line, which are located within the same facility as emulsion plant. The company said that it has completed the liquefied natural gas heating system, the anti-fire system, the loading and unloading systems and the major infrastructure lines, and that it continues to make progress with the engineering and completion of the solvent recovery system that is being done by Gas Liquid Engineering of Calgary, Canada. PSON estimates that the solvent recovery system should be completed by the third quarter of 2013.
“2013 is going to be a pivotal year for Petrosonic as we complete our de-asphalting Sonoprocess plant, consolidate and increase our IP portfolio and commercialize our heavy oil technologies further,” Agolli stated.
PSON’s patented Sonoprocess™ utilizes cleantech sonic energy to de-asphalt heavy oil, differing from conventional upgraders by operating on a much smaller scale with lower capital costs. The technology is also conducted without the use of water or release of emissions in the atmosphere.
