Active Power (ACPW) Chosen to Support Leading Pharmaceutical Company’s New Manufacturing Facility

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and modular infrastructure solutions manufacturer Active Power announced it has shipped more than three megawatts of total rated UPS capacity to one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. These multiple CleanSource UPS systems, which were shipped during the third quarter of 2013, will be deployed in support of the end user’s new drug manufacturing facility in the eastern United States.

Active Power’s CleanSource UPS product line is especially suited for protecting highly digitized manufacturing equipment that is located in harsh environments typical for industrial applications. Due to its rugged electromechanical design and small footprint, the company’s integrated flywheel UPS can be deployed virtually anywhere, as well as in close proximity to the equipment it’s protecting. The UPS is a battery-free technology and does not require strict temperature control, in contrast with a legacy UPS.

CleanSource’s UPS is a highly energy-efficient system, operating at up to 98 percent efficiency at full load and up to 96 percent efficiency at partial load, delivering critical backup power in half the space required by a legacy UPS. The product is also capable of reducing total cost of ownership by as much as 60 percent – compared with a conventional UPS – due in part to its high energy efficiency, lower cooling costs, and reduced maintenance requirements.
