The company today reported positive results from a three-month evaluation on its technology done in 2012 by the British Army at Camp Bastion, a deployed field hospital in Afghanistan. Its bronchoscopes were used mainly on patients who suffered high velocity fragment or bullet wounds since they often develop complications such as bleeding from the airways, mucus plugging, and pulmonary infections.
The research study evaluated the efficacy and utility of Vision-Sciences’ flexible bronchoscope using EndoSheath technology and its rapid, very simple cleansing routine versus conventional bronchoscopes, which require complicated disinfection procedures between uses.
In contrast, Vision-Sciences’ proprietary technology provides a sterile, disposable, microbial barrier between the bronchoscope and patient. This includes a disposable biopsy/suction channel. The design means that the company’s bronchoscopes never come into direct contact with a patient in any point in the procedure. This allows for a much simpler and more efficient cleaning and disinfecting routine between examinations.
