iPass, a provider of mobile
services for enterprises and telecom services entities, announced updates today
to its offerings through Deutsche Telekmom and Lufthansa.
According to the
announcement, iPass Open Mobile subscribers will now be able to access
broadband in-flight Wi-Fi services while on Lufthansa aircrafts. The service,
which is made possible through iPass’s relationship with Deutsche Telekom, will
expand iPass’s Open Mobile Network footprint to now include hotspots in over
100 Lufthansa planes.
Deutsche Telekom’s Head of
In-Flight, Antje Williams, remarked, “We are excited to have realized another
step towards our vision of becoming the leading European telecommunications
company by enabling very easy and convenient, smart client based Wi-Fi access
in the sky together with our partners.”
iPass users can access the
service on nearly every long-haul flight by simply connecting via their iPass
Open Mobile client with the usual log-in details. Business users are able to
comply with VPN and endpoint security policies while in the air, while the
enterprises will benefit from simplified billing by avoiding a separate
in-flight Wi-Fi access charge.

access to the world’s largest commercial Wi-Fi network on land, but also in the
