Today, Identive Group announced it has signed a distribution agreement with Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, which is a business region of Avnet, Inc. Giving Avnet’s customers access to Identive’s wide range of RFID and NFC readers and embedded modules, the agreement additionally offers customers access to a vast array of RFID/NFC passive transponders and tags. A provider of solutions and services for the identification, security, and RFID industries, Identive offers RFID and NFC products that enable a broad range of contactless applications, including access, payment, ticketing, and asset tracking.
It has been projected by market research firm Deloitte that 300 million NFC-enabled cell phones, tablets, and e-readers will be sold during 2013. Having on its line card Identive’s advanced, complementary infrastructure-based solutions, along with its many readers and modules that are based on NPX Semiconductors’ popular NFC reader and Cortex processor family, Avnet will be able to provide customers with module options that are more integrated, along with a vertically integrated transponder offering.
The adoption of mobile phone-based point-of-sale, ticketing, security, and loyalty systems based on Near Field Communications technology is accelerating. Simultaneously, contactless technology is thriving in new applications – from closed loop embedded RFID-based systems for video gaming platforms to medical device tracking, anti-counterfeiting, field maintenance management, and reverse logistics.
