Abengoa, one of the leading sustainability innovators in engineering/construction for the energy and water sectors, a real powerhouse developer of turn-key renewable projects on the international scene, was proud to report securing a new, major electricity transmission project in Brazil today valued at some €170M from the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL).
Abengoa itself will kick in roughly 11.7% of that total figure directly and will be tasked with the primary project endpoints, ranging from engineering, design and construction, to the transmission concession commissioning and maintenance of the project. The transmission line will cover roughly 228 miles and ABGB’s considerable expertise in this type of work will ensure that optimum quality is achieved at every stage of the project’s development.
The new transmission line, located in southeast Brazil’s energy hungry Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais states, will be designed to carry 500 kV between two key substations, the Marimbondo II and the Campinas. Given the established track record of past successes for ABGB on other projects done for ANEEL, like the Linha Verde and Norte Brasil transmission lines, the company should have no problem executing here flawlessly. In fact, ABGB just landed another three transmission lines from ANEEL back in May of this year totaling over 1.2k miles, further indication of the strength of the relationship between AGBG and Brazil’s primary regulatory body for electrical infrastructure.
This newest line should come into service in late 2017 (September tentatively) and should prove a great opportunity for ABGB to further enhance their proficiency in transmission line implementation, thus reinforcing the company’s already dominant hand in this sector across Latin America. The company has an impressive 13.6k miles plus of these kinds of transmission line projects already in throughout Latin America as a whole and ABGB has participated in over 7.4k miles of such projects in Brazil alone.
This latest deal is a bold sign to investors about the company’s future prominence in the sector and underscores their Latin America footprint quite well. Investors will be keen to keep a close eye on Abengoa as they continue to land and develop such major transmission projects in the region, helping Brazil realize improved efficiency and sustainability metrics.
