Biomerica, Inc. (BMRA) Obtains Approval to Market H. Pylori and PTH Tests in Mexico, Appoints New Mexico Distributor

Global biomedical company Biomerica announced it has been granted approval to market and sell its H. pylori and parathyroid hormone (PTH) diagnostic tests in Mexico. Biomerica has additionally announced the appointment of a new distributor in Mexico, which has more than 35 years of experience and 200 overall employees.

Biomerica’s H. pylori test enables labs to automate testing for H. pylori quickly and cost-effectively. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a bacterium responsible for more than 85% of ulcers. The worldwide anti-ulcer market is estimated at more than $9.5 billion, and epidemiological studies have shown that the H. pylori infection is widespread and affects more than 1 billion people throughout the world. Both men and women are affected by the disease, and nearly all duodenal ulcer patients and more than 80% of stomach ulcer patients are infected with the bacterium. H. pylori infection has been shown to be a significant risk factor for stomach cancer as well as peptic ulcer disease.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) controls calcium, phosphorous, and vitamin D levels in the blood and bone, and release of PTH is controlled by the level of calcium in the blood. Low blood calcium levels cause increased PTH to be released, while high blood calcium levels block PTH release. PTH tests are generally ordered when a person has symptoms associated with hypercalcemia or hypocalcemia, including fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and thirst muscle cramps. A doctor may also order a PTH test when an individual has a chronic condition like kidney disease. Utilizing Biomerica’s PTH test, laboratories can quickly and cost-effectively automate testing for PTH.

These regulatory approvals will allow Biomerica’s new distributor to sell and market the company’s H. pylori and PTH tests throughout Mexico, with a potential market of more than 3,500 clinical labs. The company is also seeking approval for several of its other product in Mexico.
