P2 Solar is powering
change. Since its founding in 1990, the company’s mission has been to conceive
ground-breaking, environmentally-sustainable renewable energy solutions that
can contribute to the reduction of global pollution.
P2 Solar directs its
resources so as to benefit from a number of global trends:
• The rising demand for clean energy
worldwide
• Renewable energy’s increasingly
competitive edge over grid electricity
• Commercial efforts to reduce reliance
on greenhouse gas emitting fossil fuels
From its base in
Surrey, Canada, P2 Solar engages in the profitable renewable energy market as a
developer of solar photovoltaic (PV) power and mini-hydro projects. The company
focuses on the construction of solar and hydro power plants in Canada and India,
and designs and installs solar photovoltaic systems on office rooftops. The
company makes a point of partnering with its customers, their communities and
their governments to design high-value yet cost-effective renewable energy
solutions that contribute to the economies in which its projects are located.
The company’s
primary focus is on its solar PV initiatives. With respect to its activities in
this area, P2 Solar is concentrating on developing projects in the most
favorable locations. These are locations where sunlight exposure is plentiful;
renewable energy policies are advantageous; private and public sectors are
actively seeking to integrate solar PV into their electricity consumption
profiles; and governments offer appealing incentive policies for solar PV power
generation in order to encourage development.
P2 Solar also sees
tremendous opportunity in small-hydro technology, another viable method of
harnessing renewable energy. In this instance, the energy is generated from
small streams and irrigation cannels. Small-hydro plants are often considered a
more cost-effective source of energy supply because they are more affordable
and environmentally friendly when compared to conventional large-scale hydro
power projects. Small-hydro plants also leave a smaller footprint on the land
surrounding the project because no dams are involved. Newer, more efficient
small-hydro technology even allow developers to exploit slower moving water
channels, like irrigation canals, which substantially increases the number of
potential generating sites. P2 Solar currently has two small-hydro projects
under development in India, a nation well-known for its sizeable number of
residents and encumbered electricity grid.
