Excellon Resources (TSX: EXN) (NYSE American: EXN) (FSE: E4X2) has more than doubled its Silver City Project with the addition of three exploration licenses for Frauenstein, Mohorn and Oederan. The project now totals an estimated 34,150 hectares. The additional areas have historical records that show centuries of high-grade silver production to shallow depths and recent confirmation samples assaying multi-kilo silver and significant gold. Silver mining in the Frauenstein area, which totals 5,700 hectares, began as early as the 13th century with significant production of silver ranging from the early 1700s until the area closed in 1884. In Mohorn, also 5,700 hectares, production of silver began in the early 1700s with impressive high-grade silver production at up to 3,400 g/t from 1770 to 1883. Totaling 6,300 hectares, the Oederan area includes several poorly documented historical mines dating back to medieval times. Excellon now has unparalleled ground position that includes historical high-grade silver mines on an epithermal silver belt that has never seen modern exploration for precious metals. “Over the past year, Saxony has become an important jurisdiction for Excellon,” said Excellon SVP over geology & corporate development Ben Pullinger in the press release. “We permitted the first drilling program for precious metals in modern times on the Bräunsdorf license, smoothly initiated the program, struck a major epithermal silver system over 12 kilometres, confirmed high-grade silver species and discovered high-grade silver veins. Based on our ongoing review of historical archives, we have added new licenses that cover additional areas of historical high-grade silver production with no modern exploration.”
